The WHO Collaborating Centre for Patient Safety Solutions established and continues to expand a collaborative network to facilitate the identification of high priority patient safety problems and potential solutions around the world. An International Steering Committee, whose membership is drawn from nearly every continent, is the cornerstone of the network. The Committee includes patient safety experts from around the world. The International Steering Committee provides guidance and counsel on the process for solution development, the topics for solution development, and also approves the final Solutions. The first meeting of the International Steering Committee was convened by the Collaborating Centre in June 2006. The Steering Committee assembles in person once a year, and holds conference calls periodically as needed.
